Watering issues

Of course we would get our crops in and then the rain would start missing us!

Did you all see the "key" I left for the water spigot right be the hose? Hopefully it will stay there. Also, I believe Bill Ross is looking into the water we used to have coming across the road that Ernest had rigged up two years ago. What about the idea of building a box to hold an elevated Rain Barrel? I think we can get a 50-60 gallon barrel for about $70. If we make a spigot for it and run drip emitters from it, we can all water with Mother Nature's help (when it rains again) and do it MUCH easier.

Sorry I am out of the loop for a few days, but promise to get on this mid next week...

I hope everyone is ok with the change of settings I made so you can see blog posts in your Email in box. Tracy suggested it, I thought it was a great idea, and I think I made that happen - Desi did it?

  1. Hi, Lyn - thanks for making the changes! It helped me to realize that there had been posts I hadn't seen.

I'm happy to say the water wagon is now in residence there! I have taken our wagon and parked it under the steps going up to the rear parking lot not far from the water supply. Everyone please feel free to use it as you see fit, and I'll just drag it home after the growing season is done. It's pretty heavy duty model although the platform is in need of some work. I thought it would be great because it'll do the job well and we won't have to worry about messing it up!

I wasn't sure where to park it, which is why I put it under the steps. It's out of the way and not likely to be seen and messed around with or considered an eyesore. It's got "Gray" spraypainted on the platform in bright orange paint, so I'm sure it's...recognizably unique. :)

I like the idea of the rain barrel, Lyn. I have one here at home. I just have it on some of the flat concrete blocks/patio stones. I think the key is being able to tap into water from a downspout because then we get all the water that hit the roof above, which was a surprising amount of water here at home.

  2. Lyn - I didn't get the email about the post, can you check my email address when you get back - tracyhespathotmaildotcom - Thanks

Thanks for the wagon, I still may have to bring water with me since I have the baby most of the time, but if I need more water it will be a great way to haul buckets with her in the carrier.

Thanks for all the great posts and information! Trac

  3. Tracy -
Now I understand what you were referring to about having an email sent to you when someone posts to the blog. I am so sorry I didn't get it before now. For some reason, I am emailed every time a new post is added. I am not sure why it's not also emailing you. I made an update to the blog settings that will hopefully fix this for you. If you don't receive emails on the next post, please let me know and I'll do some more research. It broke my heart to read your post about carrying the 5 gallon buckets of water to your plot with your baby in the carrier. Thanks to Laurie, there's now a wagon! I will pop into a Firehouse Sub shop and get a few of their pickle buckets and leave them near the wagon. That should simplify things a bit for you. I always share any leftover water with others plots if I have extra from what I bring in from our rain barrels at home. I try to give everyone a sprinkling of water every day that I'm out there. I am so glad to be a part of this garden.

  4. I just wanted to clarify the email thing. If you are set up as a contributor you will receive an email everytime someone makes a comment on a blog post. However, you can set up another feature that emails a group, which can be other people besides contributors, when a new blog post is added. I would put up a new blog post, but I don't have one to add. Was out watering today and everything looked good. Still really windy. Tracy
